KWAMAZIBUKO PRECINCT
Kwamazibuko is a large government initiative on behalf of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality to redevelop hostels into community residential units. It comprises 24 unique buildings that make provision for rental units dependent on the size required. There is a focus on making these units family-friendly. This project is currently in the design development stage.

Block 3 is a mixed use block while Block 4 is entirely residential. These blocks view a shared courtyard space while establishing a gateway and defined route from the train station.
The shared courtyard spaces between buildings provide for recreational activities as well as pleasant visual breaks.
Block 1 (Behind) is entirely residential while Block 2 (in front) provides commercial space at the gateway into the precinct with residential space above.
Vehicular traffic is directed by traffic circles between the two main commercial nodes of the precinct.
The gateway and entry route to the precinct from the train station is defined by commercial space (left) and green space (right).
The site is a long rectangular strip of land, allowing for a main vehicular axis to bisect the site making the precinct easily navigable.
